CHILDREN OF THE DEAD
Anthology of Horror Stories featuring Children in central roles
Wicked Shadow Press invites horror fiction submissions for publication in its anthology "Children of the Dead" (Expected release: August 2024). The submission deadline is July 20, 2024.
This collection seeks to feature horror stories with children in central roles, whether they are the undaunted adventurer who uncover a supernatural secret or fight ghosts, an unfortunate victim of a demonic possession, or a ghost themselves who died tragically when they were young. We invite writers to contribute their most exciting tales for this uniquely themed anthology.
Feel free to come up with your own plot or simply get started with one of the following Writing Prompts:
1) Teen-aged Tina, who has recently lost her father, stumbles across an ancient book that claims to resurrect dead people.
2) 6-year-old Jack is terrified of the old lady in house no. 11. He believes she was the one to murder her when he was a child the last time.
3) 15-year-old altar boy Rana is asked to help out in the exorcism of a 12-year-old girl. What awaits Rana is a terrifying trial from hell!
4) When little Natasha realises there is a ghost in their new home, she becomes determined to catch and befriend the supernatural entity.
5) Ali never believed in djinns, until a djinn reportedly possessed his classmate and made him kill himself. Now Ali believes he is next!
6) The transition from junior high star pitcher to master zombie killer came naturally to Guru because he had one thing others didn't: an impeccable aim.
All Horror Subgenres Welcome.
THEME: The story MUST feature at least one character of a child in a central role.
WE ARE ACCEPTING
Short Stories: (between 1500-8000 words) Please send no more than ONE short story
Flash Fiction: (between 100-1500 words) Please send no more than TWO flash fictions
We are considering TRANSLATED WORKS as well. Submission of translated works must be accompanied by a statement declaring that the translator has obtained the author’s permission and their publisher’s, if required.
Simultaneous Submissions are welcome but the author must inform us by e-mail as soon as the submitted piece is accepted elsewhere. Pieces cannot be withdrawn once Wicked Shadow Press informs the author of its acceptance for publication.
We consider reprints but generally do not publish them unless they are exceptional. Please mention in the mail body in case your submission is a reprint.
At present, we are unable to pay our contributors. Each contributor shall receive a COMPLIMENTARY DIGITAL COPY of the anthology as soon as it publishes.

Please submit only original pieces. Wicked Shadow Press or the editor/s of the anthology shall not be responsible for any disputes arising due to plagiarism or copyright infringement.
Each piece MUST be attached with a short bio of the author, preferably within 100 words, and if possible, a photograph of the author to go along with publication.
NOTE: We typically reply within a month after receiving submissions. However, replies can be delayed under unforeseen circumstances.
