Submission Guidelines for PETTING BOO!

PETTING BOO!

A Zoological anthology of Horror stories

Wicked Shadow Press invites horror fiction submissions for publication in its anthology "Petting Boo!" (Expected release: September 2024). The submission deadline is August 3, 2024.

Calling all writers! We're seeking short stories for "Petting Boo!" an anthology exploring the intersection of animals and the supernatural. We want your most hair-raising, heartwarming, and thought-provoking tales featuring:

— Animal ghosts

— Pets encountering supernatural phenomena

— Mythical animal spirits

— Paranormal experiences from an animal's perspective

Feel free to come up with your own plot or take inspiration from one of our Writing Prompts:

  1. The phantom horse that roams the countryside apparently belonged to a medieval king. 6-year-old Maia stays up one night to catch a glimpse of it.

  2. The villagers of Naharpur believe that the maneater tiger is possessed by an ancient forest deity. The hunter from the city doesn't believe in ghost stories.

  3. After accidentally killing a protected deer on sacred land, a spoiled young brat begins to see bloody, zoological apparitions that scare the living daylights out of him.

  4. Tia was surprised when the fluffy black and white cat decided to move in with her. Little did she know that the familiar has chosen Tia as the new vessel for her ancient mistress.

  5. Max smells a strange rabidity in the air, something that'll spare dogs, but will turn humans into the undead. He must race against time, and zombies, to accompany his master to safety.

  6. An elephant in Africa is separated from her tribe, and accidentally travels through a portal that takes her to a dimension ruled by dark, vicious and ancient Gods.

  7. A newborn kitten, thrown away on the streets, becomes the only surviving witness to the gruesome revenge of a wronged spirit who takes out the entire village within one night!

  8. The poacher didn't shy away from killing the biggest of animals. But when he swatted and killed the mythical little blue fly that must not be killed, he realised that his end was near.

All Horror Subgenres Welcome.
